Dental crowns and bridges are an established modality for fixed teeth replacement. Although the basic technique followed has been the same over the decades, the material used for fabrication has changed drastically over the years.
The technique involves basic preparation of the teeth to accommodate the thickness of the crown. Initially, the emphasis was purely on function with very little attention to cosmetics so gold or silver colored crowns were used. Then came metal ceramic crowns with an inner core of metal and the outer layer of tooth colored layer of ceramic. However, these crowns were prone to chipping. Today metal free crowns are the latest trend. These do not have metal so cosmetically much superior to the previous versions. Simultaneously the strength is also very good that makes them easy to be used anywhere in the mouth, even in back teeth which are subjected to high-pressure forces of chewing. Another advantage of these crowns is about their fabrication technique. They are made using CAD/CAM techniques which lead to fitting accuracy and make these highly durable.
However, no matter how good the materials are, a restoration can only be successful if the treating dentist is trained in its proper use. We at Dr. Garg’s Multispeciality Dental Centre, based in New Delhi, keep ourself updated both in terms of technique and infrastructure so that we deliver perfection in our work.
