Evaluating Dental Crown Cost in India

Dental Crowns are artificial teeth used to cover natural teeth or replace missing teeth. Since crowns help to replace both cosmetics and function, it is imperative that the material used for fabricating the crown should match natural teeth in color and texture and at the same time should be strong enough to bear the masticatory load.

When introduced for the first time, the emphasis was purely on function. Hence, earlier crowns were made of Cobalt-chromium or gold. As awareness increased, cosmetics became a priority.

Ceramics were introduced to mask the metal color. These had a base of metal over which ceramics were fused and glazed. Later metal free ceramics were introduced to further augment the cosmetic part.

The technical part of the dental crown procedure involves tooth preparation to provide a proper form. An impression of the prepared tooth is taken and a master die is made. The fabrication part is done on this die. While the most part is a CAD-CAM process, final shading and tinting are done by hand.

Dental Crown preparation and fixing is an art and science. A number of bio mechanical principles have to be considered.
